Is Bolus and Barbells a competition?
No. Bolus and Barbells is a peer-to-peer support event centered around education and physical improvement for type 1 diabetics.
I am new to physical fitness and do not consider myself a T1D “athlete.” Will there be anything for me to do at a Bolus and Barbells event?
YES! Bolus and Barbells events are designed with all levels of fitness in mind. Qualified coaches will be available to assist you with proper lifting technique.
I don’t know my current or estimated squat, overhead press, and deadlift 1 rep max (1RM), so what should I input on the registration form? What is this used for?
Your 1RM and experience level is used to sort participants into lifting groups. If you do not know your 1RM and cannot reasonably estimate it, please enter zero.
I am not a type 1 diabetic. Can I still attend a Bolus and Barbells event?
Anyone over 18 years old is welcome at Bolus and Barbells events; however, our content is specifically aimed at type 1 diabetics and anyone that supports them (significant others, friends, siblings, parents, etc).
What does the registration fee for Bolus and Barbell events include?
Registration costs for Bolus and Barbells events include admission to the event and lunch.
Is water provided to participants at Bolus and Barbells?
Most gym locations where Bolus and Barbells events are held have a refillable water station, so it is a good idea to bring a water bottle.
Are pre- or post-event meals optional?
Pre- or post-event meals are a great opportunity to get to know new T1D friends or catch up with old ones, but they are not mandatory. If you plan to attend a pre- or post-event meal, additional payment is due at registration.
Do I need to stay at the event hotel to attend a Bolus and Barbells event?
You do not need to stay at the event hotel to attend a Bolus and Barbells event. When possible, an event hotel is listed with a special group rate for the convenience of participants. While not required, many past participants have noted that staying at the same hotel together helped them get to know each other better or spend more time with their friends from previous events.
Why are event t-shirts included in registration at some events but not at others?
Event t-shirts are included in registration when sponsorship is received to cover the cost. Without sponsorship, event t-shirts may be available for purchase at registration.
